Revlon Parfumerie Scented Nail Enamel In Italian Leather

I feel like it has been ages since I wrote a post. Ok so I'm exaggerating, it has only been a few days but still. My laptop has been giving me so much problems over the past two weeks and I'm beyond annoyed that I have deicded that there will be a new laptop in the picture hopefully by this week. Then back to regularly blogging becuase I'm so backlogged.

I haven't been doing my nails very regularly either despite picking up some new colours a little while back and some where in between. I got a few colours from the Revlon Parfumerie range not really for the whole scented thing but I liked some of the colours and the vintage looking bottles were hard to resists. I have actually used Italian Leather before but completely negelcted to take a photo of it until now. I really love the colour, it suits my skin tone so well. It's a grey khaki green with gold micro shimmer which looks either more grey or khaki green under different lighting. The formula is easy to layer and my nails were opaque with two layers. Italian Leather falls under the Sweet & Spices scent category and for me it smelled very musky. I'm not particularly bothered by the scent as it's not that strong, although it does linger for about three days. The colour started chipping after 4 days which is usually the time nail colours start chipping on me.

Revlon Parfumerie Scented Nail Enamel is available at Sasa for RM20.90 if I remember correctly.

Guerlain Un Soir À L'Opéra Christmas 2014 Workshop With José Luis

Guerlain comes up with the most beautiful Christmas collections every year and this year is no exception. I mean have you seen the Météorites Perles d’Étoile, Limited Edition from the Guerlain Un Soir À L’Opéra (A Night At The Opera) Christmas 2014 Collection? This must be the most exciting meteorites yet. The bronze-red hues are just a stand out for me. Natalia Vodianova is the picture of  glamorous opulence as the face for this collection.

Over the weekend I was invited for a workshop with Guerlain International Makeup Artist Jose Luis Yuve who basically shared tips on how to use some of the beautiful pieces from the Guerlain Un Soir À L’Opéra Christmas 2014 Collection some and I also got to try some Guerlain's latest skincare products.

Before trying on all that beautiful products from the Christmas collection, Adrian - Guerlain Malaysia's Trainer introduced the Guerlain Abeille Royale range. I have actually tried out some of the products from this range before so click here if you want to find out how it went. The Abeille Royale range is formulated with Pure Royal Jelly Concentrate that stimulates the skin's healing process which will continuously help to repair wrinkles and loss of firmness. I really liked how the Face Treatment Oil, which is a cooling treatment oil, felt on my skin, it can either be used as part of a skincare routine or over makeup to refresh the skin which I did, and not only did my skin looked less tired but my make looked fresh too. It has this light texture that feel watery at first but gets a tad oily as you warm it up without any stickiness after application. The latest addition to the Abeille Royale range however is the Repairing Honey Gel Mask which is meants to plump up and make the skin feel smooth from the first application. Continuous use will improve the skin's texture, it will feel more nourished and supple. Now this is a really thick mask, although I tried it on my hand, there was a difference when I compared it to my other hand after 5 minutes. It felt smooth and looked brighter.

After the skin was pampered, Jose, Guerlain's International Makeup Artist explained, the essence of Guerlain's style of beauty, it is to enhance the radiance of skin. Which means your skin should look fresh and natural without weighing it down with thick bases. Jose recommends using Guerlain Lingeris de Peau Beauty Booster for the illusion for a perfectly nude complexion. It hydrates, protects, corrects, evens out skin tones and enhance skin radiance. If more coverage is required, use the Parure Compact Foundation with Crystal Pearls, which is also suppose to smooth and mattify the complexion. If you have oily skin, then a compact is a must for every 3-4 hour touch ups according to Jose.

The most interesting part of the session was when Jose drew charts to explain which parts of the face and how the products should be applied. It was so helpful. He first started with the eyes using the Petrouchka Palette (Eye and Blush Palette), it comes in a gold compact adorned with a red bow. The top tier eye palette is a five shade gold palette ranging from lights, medium, red and dark golds - champagne, goldenrod, copper, bronze and brown. You apply the copper first and use either the bronze or brown on the outer corner and crease. Then use either one of the lighter shades to highlight the brow bone. To finish off the eyes, wing out the liner strrting from the top of the iris  and apply two to three coats of mascara.

If you are new to Guerlain meteorites then this chart will help. Apply it in the shape of a 'g' on you face, this will give it dimension. Météorites Perles d’Étoilefrom this collection is a warmer on compared to previous ones. It gives a very subtle bronzy glow to the complexion. After which you apply the blush, and there are two choices in the Petrouchka Palette, a peachy-pink one or a pink-brown one which I think it beautiful. To complete the look, a bright lipstick - red or an orange one depending on which you fancy or you could try Rouge Parade as worn by Natalia  Vodianova. Finish of with a few spritz of Coque d'Or - a perfumed shimmer powder for body and hair,  housed in an opulent gold shaped bottle which is inspired by the original bow-shaped Baccarat Coque d'Or perfume bottle with a crimson puffer atomiser, it's just so pretty. Now all you need is the best gown you have in your wardrobe for A Night At The Opera.

Obviously wasn't going to the Opera, but you guys get the idea. The eye colour shows up really nicely on the eyes and can be intensified for a sexier look. Guerlain Un Soir À L’Opéra (A Night At The Opera) Christmas 2014 Collection is now available at Guerlain counters. Thank you so much Guerlain Malaysia for a wonderful afternoon!

Nuxe Reve de Miel Ultra Nourishing Lip Balm - A Cult Favourite

My lips have been unsually extra dry over the past 3 months and I have been hunting around for a lip balm that would calm them down. Oily skin, extra dry lips, very challenging I tell you. Since I have heard so many good things about the Nuxe Reve de Miel Ultra Nourishing Lip Balm I figured I would give it a go.

I have been using this for over a month now and it has been amazing. Not only does it intensly hydrates but it also protects the lips while it repairs. Yes, unfortunately it went through a slightly chapped phase as well. All this without being in a cold climate. Go figure. I love using this at night because of the smooth thick texture. I wake up in the morning with the lip balm still firmly on my lips but feeling crazy soft. When I use a thin layer of it during the day it manages to last for hours, it just doesn't budge through the drinking and eating until I properly wipe it off. However I only use it during the day when it's really dry. I prefer to use one with an SPF like the Bobbi Brown lip balm (review here). Reve de Miel has a soft natural honey scent in the pot, the scent however doesn't come through when applied on the lips.

My lips situation have been under control but it does go into extra dry relapse once in while which I think is an entirely internal problem. But the Nuxe Reve de Miel lip balm has helped immensely. It contains at least 78% natural ingredients - Honey, Sunflower, Musk Rose and Almond Oils, Shea Butter and Grapefruit essence. Free from parabens.

Nuxe Reve de Miel Nourishing Lip Balm retails at RM75 (0.52oz)  and is available at Sasa outlets.

Setting My Makeup With Urban Decay

I picked up the Urban Decay Primer Potion in Anti-Aging and Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray about a month back been using themsince. I decided to try the Urban Decay Primer Potion Anti-Aging after my Urban Decay Primer Potion in Orignal was nearly running out. The Original formula has been a staple in my makeup routine for a while now and I swear by it, eyeshadow stays put on my oily lids for 12 hours straight, no creasing.

Compared to the Urban Decay Primer Potion Original formula which sets much drier, the Urban Decay Primer Potion Anti-Aging formula sets just a tiny bit dewy which makes it fantastic for blending eye shadow. It does completely sets after I'm done with all the layering and blending. Only thing is it doesn't last quite as long as the Original formula. Creasing is noticeable after about 8 hours. But I love how it makes colour pop on the eyes. Urban Decay Primer Potion in Anti-Aging is also suppose to minimise the appearance of wrinkles in 8 weeks which I haven't noticed anything yet. I might have younger looking lids in another 4 weeks, we'll see.

I think the only other setting spray I have tried is MAC Prep + Prime Skin which I didn't use for very long, I don't remember why though. Bought the Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray on a whim and found myself reaching for it quite often concentrating mostly on the t-zone. I don't really have a problem with my makeup not lasting long as I wear a really good base to help everything stay in place but the t-zone can always use some extra help. The "X" and "T" spritzing formation did need a little getting use too. The one thing I notice about using the setting spray is that makeup on the t-zone lasts a little longer without it melting off after a few hours. On the whole the Urban Decay All Night Setting Spray feels light on the skin without any stickiness.

Both products are in travel size because it's a great way to try new things without having to commit to a full size and finding out it might not work for you. Urban Decay Primer Potion Anti-Aging retails at RM46 (6ml) and Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray retails at RM49 (30ml). Both are available at all Sephora outlets.

At its heart, fruity accords are balanced by a twist of violet leaves, adding sparkle and shimmer to the fragrance, while pink peony adds a light vitality. Natural magnolia oil creates a new wet freshness, which is   deepened by the perfect blend of cyclamen, and peppering pink freesia. The dry down is warm and features a unique ingredient, Florimoss, – projecting an earthy tone wrapped by the familiarity and creaminess of sandalwood and the rich warmth of honeycomb –adding a natural depth to the floral tones.

The ESACADA Joyful flacon is designed to evoke skyscrapers in the city, the ESCADA Joyful flacon pays homage to city life and the opportunities that come with it. Striking in its symmetry and elegant lines, the new ESCADA Joyful flacon perfectly reflects the modern sophistication of the scent.  The outer packaging is designed in contemporary green and yellow to reflect simplicity, femininity and happiness.

ESCADA Joyful will be creating #JoyfulMoments throughout the campaign, inviting consumers to follow the conversation and share their own #JoyfulMoments along the way. ESCADA Joyful is available at all major department stores.

I'm back from a short recharge session. It's finally the last day of 2014, wasn't that quick? 2014 has been somewhat of a challenging one for me blog wise. I had to hit pause quite a few times trying to figure out where things were heading to. Don't think I came up with anything solid but I'm carrying on. I also have some really good things to be thankful for this year. Of course all this seems rather inconsequential in light of recent happenings. That said, I want to thank you guys for still supporting and reading my blog after five years. Hopefully there will be some exciting things going on next year. May 2015 be a wonderful and safe year for you guys. I'm just hoping for a more forgiving and fulfilling one. Happy 2015!

2014 Favourites - Makeup, Skincare & Fragrance

Here's something new I decided to do, a favourites post. While compiling products for this post, I realised that 2014 has been more of a skincare year for me. Not that I mind especially since I found a bunch of products that has done wonders for my skin. There have also been colours that I have fallen for, some good tools and fragrances that I have been reaching for more than others. I have reviewed most of the products listed here but there are some that I seem to have missed.

Clinique Anti-Blemish Solutions Liquid Makeup (True Beige) - I was so excited when I got swatched for this! The first time ever Clinique has done a shade that's a proper yellow base and is almost a perfect match to my skin tone. The fact that it treats acne while it covers is a plus point for me. Well done for catering for a wider skin tone range Clinique! Review here.

Bobbi Brown CC Cream SPF 35 PA+++ - I never stop looking for a good base especially since it's essential to keep my makeup in place but finding one that suits me is such a challenge. For the longest time, I was using a particular one and I still think it's good but this year I was trying not to look so 'matte' despite the oiliness and I started using the Bobbi Brown CC Cream as a base and it's amazing. It gives my skin a clear and slightly tinted base for me to work with and it just keeps everything in place, giving the complexion an ever so slightly healthy dewy finish. Review here.

Kiehl's Hydro-Plumping Re-Texturizing Serum Concentrate - When I read on the label for "Age-related dehydration", I thought yes I need that. I wasn't sure what the results would be like as it is meant to hydrate the skin from the inside but I saw a difference within a week and I have not stopped using it ever since. My complexion looks less tired and clearer. It really helps soften the appearance of drying up acne scars, so I don't get the unsightly dry outlines underneath a concealer. Review here.

SK-II Stempower Essence - I never reviewed this one although I really liked it and actually finished the bottle. It's meant to reduce the appearance of pores and improve firmness. This worked for me with firmness. I noticed my skin felt plump with a side of "boing" to it

Origins Plantscription Anti-aging Power Serum - I started using this one towards the end of the year, it's to improve skin density and yes I saw a difference especially with my laugh lines. They appeared a lot softer after 4 weeks and gave my face a subtle lift. I continued with this serum because I just love the way it made me look more awake. Review here.

Clinique Sonic System Purifying Cleansing Brush - I know I started using this later in the year but it has been doing all kinds of good for my skin. Oily skin is such a pain to cleanse and even when you think it's clean it's still clogged. Since I started using the Clinique Cleansing Brush my skin is less clogged and I have a spa-like cleanse to look forward to. Review here.

Shupette Shu Uemura x Karl Lagerfeld - I could just be bias with the whole cat thing but seriously the entire collection is just so pretty. The Shupette Eye & Lip Palette is a beautiful mix of colours that you can play around with. Since I have much too much natural earthy tones and I believe that I can never have enough of similar shades, this palette was a really nice change. Fact that it comes in a fluffy Shupette pouch with blue jeweled eyes just sold it for me. Review here.

Bobbi Brown Blush in Rose - Bobbi Brown doesn't usually have new blush shades but they released eight gorgeous shades for Fall this year. I tried them all but fell for Rose because it's such a beautiful shade on me. Rose is pigmented so I can play it up or down depending on the look I'm going for. It's perfect for that flushed look as well. Review here.

Hourglass Ambient Light Blush - I know I'm so late with this blush but I finally got my hands on Radiant Magenta. Nothing much to say about this that hasn't already been said, it's so pretty. Despite not being sure about the shade when I first got it, it grew on me. All into the lit from within look now. Review here.

Zoeva Eye Shadow Brushes - When I decided to make it a point to wear more eye shadow this year, I also expanded my eye makeup brush collection. I found these ones from Zoeva and I have been using them regularly. Amazing quality for the price. Pretty sure my collection will be expanding more next year.

Nuxe Reve de Miel Ultra-Nourishing Lip Balm- Not much happening on the lip colour front for me this year. There were some that I liked but since my lips have been a bit wierd through out the year I found myself reaching for lip balms or tinted lip balms more than colours. I decided to give this one a go in November and it has helped so much! Perhaps more colours next year. Review here.

Nails - Regardless of season, I have been liking brown/nude shades on my nails this year. Guerlain Tonka Imperiale a medium warm brown is so easy to work into any look while Bobbi Brown Bittersweet a darker brown is great for an edgy neutral.

Fragrance - This must be the year for fragrances. I have tried so many this year, it's crazy. It's was difficult to choose but I picked the ones that I have gone through pretty quickly and ended up with See By Chloe EDP and Gucci Guilty Intense EDP. One for day and the other for night, not really, I just spritz on the one I feel like wearing. See By Chloe is a more softer scent and Gucci Guilty Intense is for days when I feel a little bit wild. I did a whole series on See By Chloe, you can find out more about it here.

There it is, my makeup, skincare and fragrance favourites for 2014. The next one will be on Hair Care and Body Care. You don't want to miss that one, it's all about volume, clean scalp, scrubbing and stuff, so stay tuned.

2014 Favourites - Hair Care & Body Care

This list isn't as long as my Beauty, Skincare & Fragrance one because I seem to have kept to or went back to old faithfuls. There are however some hair products that I have tried this year that has really made a difference. There's nothing very new with body care but there is something that I can't seem to keep my hands off. Here goes.

Kerastase Specifique Bain Vital Dermo Calm - My scalp has been loving this shampoo from the first wash. It thoroughly cleanses the scalp of any oils, dirt and residue of styling products while leaving a very soothing sensation. This has been amazing especially since I have sensitive scalp ie it does tend to get irritated easily, tiny bumps etc. If you are experiencing something similar in the scalp department, I highly recommend you try this one out. Review here.

Kerastase Serum Sensodite Dermo Calm - Also another must try for sensitive scalp. It calms and soothes itching, redness, tingling and burning amazingly well. It doesn't leave any oily residue at all, it just sinks in. Bumps be gone! Can you tell I've been more sensitive towards my scalp's need this year? Review here.

Phyto Phytorhum Energising Shampoo - The first time I used this I didn't like it, so I left it for a while. But I came back to it a little bit later and after a few washes my hair got used to the whole 95% natural botanical ingredients thing and it started looking really good. This shampoo is meant for lifeless hair and when I bought it I felt that my hair needed a little bit of life injected into it. That's exactly what it has done.

L'Oreal Professionnel Mythic Oil Seve Protectrice - I have tried quite a few heat-defense product but none has made an impression like this one has. Although I started using the Seve Protectrice some time in the last quarter of last year, it has been working great for my hair. Easier to dry and it looks smoother. Review here.

L'Oreal Professionnel Tecni Art Wild Stylers Crêpage De Chignon - You know how I love big volumnous hair? And I don't mean poofy frizz, I mean styled but big, this one gives a great volumising effect. I have been using this since I chopped off my hair into an angled bob in August, which after a few months struggled to keep to the style because the curls started to slowly come back, which I am so happy about. I started to miss hair long. Crêpage De Chignon is a mineral powder fixing spray for that "wild mane" effect. Although without this my hair was already poofy but blow drying with this gave it control. My hair has passed my shoulders now and it's still working its magic.

The Body Shop Absinthe Purifying Hand Cream - Completely obsessed with this scent! Non alcoholic, derived from botanicals. Thought I'd put that in. Ever since I smelled this early last year, I have been obsessed with the scent, it's green, fresh and crisp. I must look so wierd sniffing my hands every time I use this. It also very moisturising thanks to the Community Fair Trade Shea Butter.

The Body Shop Spa Wisdom Africa Ximenia & Salt Scrub - An oldie but a goodie. I revisited an old favourite last year when I repurchased this scrub. Again, the scent, it's so calming and relaxing. It exfoliates without stripping and leaves my skin feeling soft and smooth. This is good stuff!

So that ends my two part 2014 Favourites. Not too long a list but definitely something things I have been loving last year. Who knows, you guys might find something you want to try for 2015.

Review : Origins Mega Mushroom Skin Relief Advanced Face Serum & Soothing Treatment Lotion

$

Some time mid last year Origins and Dr. Andrew Weil developed a new formula for the Mega Mushroom Skin Relief Collection. The range is targeted at sensitive skin due to emotional stress and environmental aggressors that will eventually lead to chronic inflammation, redness, dryness and breakouts. Mega Mushroom Skin Relief Collection helps to promote skin resilience, evenness and a healthier appearance with a new cocktail of "miracle worker" ingredients Sea Buckthorn berry, mushrooms long used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and other powerful ingredients.

What's in it...

  • Sea Buckthorn Berry - Used in Traditional Chinese, Tibetan and Mongolian Mediicine for over 1,000 years this anti-irritant and anti-oxidant helps shield skin from aggressors that can lead to increased sensitivity and irritation.
  • Chaga Mushroom - Powerful anti-irritant and antioxidant originating from Germany that helps promote natural cellular integrity, a byproduct of chronic inflammation.
  • Cordyceps Mushroom - This legendary miracle mushroom from China and is known to create cellular energy called ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate), which is for the skin's protective skin barrier.
  • Rishi Mushroom - Originating form China this mushroom is known as the "mushroom of immortality" and immediately quiets and calms the skin.
  • Essential Oil Blend - Organic Orange Oil, Organic Mandarin Oil, Organic Patchouli Oil, Organic Geranium Oil, Organic Lavender Oil and Organic Olibanum Oil.

I tried out the Origins Mega Mushroom Skin Relief Advanced Face Serum and the Soothing Treatment Lotion a few months back, however I have been putting off writing this review until now thinking that I might give them a second try but that has yet to happen. So for now I'll just tell you guys how it went the first time round. The scent is something I really liked, it's all spa-like and slightly herbal, very calming. With texture, the Soothing Treatment Lotion is pretty much watery and it absorbs instantly without feeling sticky, where as the Advanced Face Serum is a super light watery serum texture which absorbs really easily but does leaves my skin feeling a tad sticky.

Everything looked good the first week, my complexion looked clearer with less pimples around. There was hardly any major breakout for the first 10 days. Until some tiny bumps starting popping up on my forehead. A bit more appeared over the next 2 days and then I found out that it was a 'purging' process. This doesn't happen to everyone though, unfortunately it did to me. I continued with the products for another week. The breakout on my forehead just got worse, oddly enough only on the forehead. It was a right mess. By then, 3 weeks since I started, I decided to stop using the products because I just couldn't go through the whole purge. I was getting very upset with the situation.

The thing with the whole 'purging' process or skin detox is, there isn't an exact time period for it to end. It could go on for days, weeks even months, it really depends on the person. I have been through it before and it's a pain.

You guys may have noticed about four to three months back that I suddenly had loads of bumps and scars on my forehead in some bare faced photos, well that was the episode. It took a good month and a half to clear up and I'm still waiting for some of the scars to completely fade. I didn't take any photos during the breakout period because it was very unsightly and not exactly something I wanted to document. I'm not sure if I going to give these two products another go, but if I do I'll write the update on this post. Don't be put off by my review though, if these products are something you would want to try then drop by the Origins counter/outlet and find out if they have samples of it. As I mentioned earlier the 'purging' process doesn't not happen to everyone.

Dr. Andrew Weil for Origins Mega-Mushroom Skin Relief Advanced Face Serum retails at RM255 (30ml) and Mega-Mushroom Skin Relief Soothing Treatment Lotion retails at RM143 (200ml) and is available at all Origins outlets.

The Mega Mushroom Skin Relief Advanced Face Serum  retails at RM225 (30ml) / RM340 (50ml) and the Soothing Treatment Lotion retails for RM300 (50ml). The Mega Mushroom Skin Relief Collection also features Eye Serum, Soothing Face Cream, Soothing Face Lotion, Face Mask and Face Cleanser which ranges from RM135 - RM350. L'Occitane x ELLE Limited Edition Hand Cream

How cute are these illustrations?! This was me when I first saw the tubes, "So cute!!". Exact words printed on the metal box by the way. Try saying something else the second you set your eyes on them, it won't happen, believe me. L'Occitane collaborated with ELLE Magazine who chose a well-known French illustrator Soledad Bravi to bring you these limited edition hand cream packaging. The hand creams themselves are four of L'Occitane's bestselling scents.

On the front of the metal box is an illustration of a girl describing the hand creams as, "These are too cute". Review: La Mer The Illuminating Eye Gel

Eye gels or creams are something I always look forward to trying because all this lack of sleep is not helping my eyes at all. I'm never expecting wonders but a product that will make my eyes looks less tired. This time I've taken the latest release from La Mer for a month long trial.

La Mer Illuminating Eye Gel is infused with La Mer's signature Miracle Broth and light-bending sea pearls that brighten the eyes on contact and works to strengthen and protect for the future. It also helps fight against the early signs of aging, making eyes look youthful, energised and awakened - "Newyly bright".

While the Miracle helps to hydrate the delicate eye area, it also soothes while jump starting skin's natural renewal process for a revitalised appearance. A sea-source brightening blend developed exclusively for the eye area combats dullness to promote a clear and even, luminous new look. Anti-irritants help calm and soothe. Mineralised algae helps smooth and refine as it plumps for a more resilient surface. Antioxidants help protect against the aging effects of the environment fatigue and stress.

Housed in a slim cylinder with a pump dispenser, La Mer The Illuminating Eye Gel has a slightly rich gel texture which sinks into the skin so well. Major points for the pump dispenser, prefer it over tubs any day and I didn't have a problem with it dispensing too much product either. With application, there is a specially-designed acupressure technique that helps awaken the eyes and helps maximise the effects of the eye gel. I tried doing the massage thing as much as I can but to be honest I have resorted to the warm up and tap method in the mornings. You can check out the acupressure technique here.

The Illuminating Eye Gel instantly brightens the eye area upon application, making it look a little less tired. If your dark circle problems isn't all too bad, you can actually get away with just the eye gel on lazy weekends. I however need a lot more help. It works great under concealer. It helps keep it in place, so I didn't find the concealer going patchy or migrating into the lines too much. It stayed put through out the day.

About a week into using the eye gel, I started noticing my eye area feel really smooth and continued getting softer and smoother over the weeks. So much so that concealer application has been effortless. It wasn't until three weeks on that I noticed my eyes looking less tired. By then end of my one month trial run, my eyes looked more awake an the skin texture around my eye area feels and looks amazing.

I'm pretty sure the results would be loads better if not for my average of 4 and a half hours sleep a night. Even then, my eyes has been looking really good since I started using the eye gel.

The La Mer Illuminating Eye Gel is a huge splurge but it's worth every cent. It retails at RM520 (15ml) and is available at La Mer counters.

5 Tips To Radiant Beauty With Felix Nguyen Of Bobbi Brown

It's the season for that radiant illuminating look. You oily-combination girls reading this don't run away just yet. Well actually I went, "No that's just not going to work for me", but I now I'm curious to see if I can pull it off after picking up some tips and tricks at the Bobbi Brown Radiant Beauty Workshop with Bobbi Brown's Manager of Artistry (Asia Pacific), Felix Nguyen. You may have seen photos of him in my Backstage with Bobbi Brown at Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week 2014. Yes, the very good looking one.

The Radiant Beauty Workshop came in time for the launch of the new Illuminating Nudes Collection. Felix made it look very simple to achieve that glowy look which I think would be perfect for you girls with normal and perhaps even dry skin. It may need some adjusting if like me you turn into greasy disco ball lunch.

1. Moisturise Well - Regardless of skin type, it's very important to moisturise your skin well. Pick a suitable formula that works for your skin. Well moisturised skin makes for a good canvas for what's coming next and it will adhere to your skin much better.

2. Time To Illuminate - The new Extra Illuminating Moisture Balm is perfect for normal-dry skin girls. Simply apply a small amount to the entire face. The reflective pearls mimic the radiance of healthy glowing skin on contact. Now if you have combination-oily skin and you want to give this ago, apply a small amount to the cheek area, avoiding the t-zone completely.

3. Get That Foundation On - Felix used his favourite Bobbi Brown Stick Foundation as it easy to either go sheer or build up to full coverage. For the illuminating look, try to keep the foundation as light as possible. You can either finish of with some powder of leave it as is. For oily-combination girls apply powder on the t-zone, and lightly on cheeks if possible.

4. Add Oil - Yes, oil. I mean the Extra Face Oil. It's to get the cheeks looking plump. It's a dry oil so it could work out ok for oil-combination skin. Then again if you're going to try this, use a very small amount on the cheeks. Or skip it altogether.

5. Rouge It - The Pot Rouge is the go to for a glowy fresh look. Pale Pink is Bobbi's favourite shade. I've tried it before and I have to admit, it does look really pretty but it also doesn't last as long as a powder does. But you can always touch up on the go.

Complete the look with Bobbi Brown Classic Eyes, filled brows and either a lipstick or gloss. If you find you need some extra radiance you can apply a little bit more of the Extra Illuminating Moisture Balm to your cheeks before the pot rouge. There you have it, a two hour workshop summarised in 5 simple tips. Happy trying!

Review: Make Up For Ever Skin Equalizer

Make Up For Ever has come up with a new range of primers referred to as Step 1 - Skin Equalizer. These skin equalizers instantly correct and prepare the skin, for flawless and longer lasting makeup result. The six variants is meant to give a wide range of choice to correct specific skin problems.

The range is formulated with The Equalizer Complex, a core of active ingredients that runs through out the range and acts on hydration, elasticity and cellular renewal for an instant skin effect. The Acti Tensor 3D, a complex of sugars that redesigns the skin’s texture to blur imperfections and lift the facial contours. Regeactive, a vegetable sugar that boosts cellular renewal and regenerates the upper levels of the epidermis for a more even texture that looks totally unified. Hyaluronic acid to guard against imperceptible water loss and sheathe the skin in a perfectly invisible hyper-hydrating film. Once the primer is absorbed, it fuses with the skin and leaves it utterly nude.

Smoothing Primer
It instantly fills in and blurs imperfections for silky soft skin. The silicon elastomers evens out skin texture by minimising pores, wrinkles and fine lines. While silica bonds with the light.

This tinted primer has a thick texture that is easy to spread out and gives the skin a velvety smooth finish. First thing I noticed is that it clings to some dry bits I have. There are few breakouts which are drying out and the Smoothing Primer just emphasises it. Foundation application made it even more obvious. My complexion did however appear some what smoother but the blurry effect didn't really do much for the acne scars. Three hours later, my foundation appeared a tad patchy. This usually happens with a primer or any base products which is silicone dense.

Radiant Primer Glow Base
This comes in six colours to instantly correct radiance according to skin tone and bring more hydration and light to the face. Formulated with our blend of Spectraflex® pigments to neutralize imperfections and banish dullness, Radiant Primers give immediate radiance and even skin tone for a flawless makeup all day long.

I tried out yellow which is for tanned skin. It's meant to give milky skin or slightly grey skin which is flattering to very pigmented skin. Needless to say I find this really odd. This fluid and easy to apply primer went on white on my complexion. I looked whiter after my foundation and I noticed I appeared very two dimensional. Four hours into the day, this primer did what it was designed to do, make my complexion appear grey. Seriously. I just looked flat, dull with a pinch of chalky. I just didn't understand how this primer was suppose to give me radiance.

That said, Make Up For Ever did mention that these new primers are meant to work best with their foundations. Since I don't own a Make Up For Ever foundation, I used it with one of my own. That could be the reason these primers didn't work well with me.

I will get back to you guys with the price.

The Mythic Oil chosen for the collaboration is  Original Nourishing Oil designed to give radiant shine, weightless nourishment and helps to protect from frizz while pampering you senses with that beautiful floral-fruity scent. I'm a big fan of the Mythic Oil range. Although I prefer the Rich Oil as it's much more suitable for my hair type the original Nourishing Oil works well too, just not as rich. I use this as a after wash, pre-blow dry, after blow dry and any time in between washes. It gives my hair added shine and makes it feel soft.

Review: Kiehl's Vetiver & Black Tea Skin-Softening Body Lotion

Kiehl's Vetiver & Black Tea range is all new over here and it's a rather different type of scent. It's the Vetiver that hits me first before my nose started noticing the Black Tea. I could be wrong but I don't think I'v seen black tea being used in a fragrance or scent before.

Apart from the aromatic fresh green scent of Hatian Vertiver and the rich citrusy scent scent of Sri Lankan Black Tea, it also combines pepper and woody notes. I find the scent very appealing but could also be a scent that requires some getting used to if you're a floral feminine scent kind of person  and are looking to try something new. It's nothing heady, just different and contemporary. Definitely a scent that could appeal to both sexes.

The lotion itself is lightweight, with Squalene to restore moisture and Vitamin E to soften the skin. It's great for your skin if it's not too dry but if you are into intense hydration with a non-intrusive scent, Kiehl's Creme de Corps is a better option.

Kiehl's Vetiver & Black Tea Skin-Softening Body Lotion retails at RM90 (250ml), Body Cleanser RM75 (250ml) and Eau de Toilette RM80(30ml), also available in 100ml. It's now available at all Kiehl's outlets.

Revlon Parfumerie Scented Nail Enamel In Tropical Rain

Smurf nails! Ok so it's a sky blue but I realised it looked very much like a smurf blue shade after the second coat. Tropical rain surprised me. I have never tried this shade of blue before and it turned out really nice. Looks good on medium tan skin. This creamy textured blue has really micro shimmer that's only obvious under bright lights or the sunny outdoors. Tropical rain comes under the 'Fresh' scent category but I smelled it as sightly musky.

Revlon Parfumerie Scented Nail Enamel retails at RM20.90 at Sasa outlets.

YSL Black Opium

YSL Black Opium came out late last year. I remembering smelling the original Opium, my first thought, oh that's heavy. Second thought, it smells very original and I assume something new at the time, now a very classic fragrance.

Black Opium is a rock'n'roll interpretation of the classic, highlighting a dark and mysterious side. The Black Opium Girl is a modern Rock Chick who lives life with passion and dares to be different. It opens with Pink Pepper and Orange Blossom with Jasmine and Coffee at its heart. While Vanilla, Patchouli and Sandalwood makes up the base. I was struggling to pin point the top notes because the scent was very overwhelming sweet and sticky even after a few minutes. Something very cotton candy-like but ten times more. After it settled the pink pepper and and strong jasmine took over. A hazey mix of woody vanilla kicked in a bit later. I love vanilla scents but I thought this one was just too sweet for me. I'm not sure how it's suppose to represent dark and edgy because I feel it's more of a grown up version of a girly scent, if that makes sense. But that's just me.

Now the bottle however does rock'n'roll really well. The black sequined version of the original bottle is very glam rock. I picture rock concerts, wild nights and stumbling in at 6am, and rewind. And I like Edie Campbell in this campaign.

YSL Black Opium is available at major department stores.

The Front Door at Grocer's Inn - Jalan Sultan, Chinatown

The Front Door at Grocer's Inn is right smack in Chinatown which I haven't been to in ages. It's a cafe and backpackers hostel housed in one of Chinatown's really old buildings. It opened some time late last year and it's currently running on their soft launch menu but it is enough keep you busy with. The inside is nothing fancy really, kept very much to the original interior and all round minimal with the decor.

The most interesting to try from the menu are The Front Door Signature Toasts which is basically toast with different combinations of toppings, mostly tried and tested ones. I tried the Pesto-Grilled Chicken-Caramelised Orange, Mozarella-Green Apple-Salted Caramel and Pizza Sauce-Mozarella-Beef Pepperoni-Fresh Basil. They were good except for the green apple one, I couldn't really taste the salted caramel. The menu lists seven other choices. The toasts go for RM6 - 1 slice, RM18 - 3 slices and RM25 - 5 slices. These also look great in pictures.

The Prawn Aglio Olio (RM17) had good flavour but was just too oily. Coffee wise, it depends on who makes it, it could be either good or just average, Cappuccino (RM9). This is according to the friend who's been there before. I had the Rose with French Vanilla tea (RM7), they use Dilmah Exceptional so that was good. It's just a nice place to just chill out at.

Review: Sulwhasoo Luminature Essential Finisher

$

I thought having a really good night or day cream was the final step to a skin care routine but it seems the Koreans have come up with an extra step. The new Sulwhasoo Luminature Essential Finisher is designed to be used as the last step in your daily skincare routine to maximise  the efficacies of skincare and achieving overall natural brightness as well as luminosity.

It works by gently embracing the skin to form a natural protective barrier and enhances the efficiency of preceding products by locking the active ingredients into the skin for a glowing, luminous and naturally radiant skin. Sulwhasoo Luminature Essential Finisher contains Locsamhyo, a proprietary blend of Green Tea and Korean Red Ginseng, is the key ingredient of Luminature Essential Finisher that enhances brightness, clarity, glow and moisture level to the skin. Green Tea purifies and boosts up the effect of other ingredients while Red Ginseng helps to regenerate the skin and strengthen inner skin regeneration. Each bottle has an equivalent power to the concentrates of 5 roots of ginseng and 110 cups of green tea.

The Luminature Essential Finisher comes in bottle wrapped in Korean traditional mother-of-pearl inlay inspired by a Korean artist who specialises in mother-of-pearl art. The pump dispenser easily controls the amount needed in the application, so you don't end up with extra product. The texture is like a really light cream that absorbs easily enough. The colour although white, has a light pink iridescent base which is not obvious when applied but I noticed it when I left some product on the back of my hand for a few seconds. So that's part of the ingredient that's meant to give the complexion that luminous glow while locking in all the skin care products used before it.

I am always wary of anything with a pink base whether it is in makeup or skincare because it doesn't go well with my skin tone. After trying this out for a few days, I can't say I have noticed any difference with it locking in all the benefits from my other skin care products or it making my skin more hydrated but my complexion started to look off colour. A little over a week I decided to stop using it because I started to look grey and dull. The thing about some products that targets luminosity or radiance is that it tends to "correct" yellow undertones to give you that "healthy pinky glow" which I have mentioned before and just don't understand because I have no issues with my yellow undertone. So after noticing the face and neck colour difference which was not only obvious when I was bare faced but also really noticeable with make up on, I decided that this product is not for me.

However if you are into achieving luminosity and radiance with a pinky glow then you might want to try this out. The Sulwhasoo Luminature Essential Finisher retails at RM280 (80ml) and is available at Parkson branches - Pavilion KL, 1  Utama and Gurney Plaza, Penang.
